Review of the 2010 DeMarini the Flame Slow Pitch Softball Bat
This is one Flame that won’t burn out quickly! DeMarini has made some great products in the past but this bat takes the cake. Lightweight and easy to hold onto, the Positack Grip makes swinging easy with this solid piece of sports equipment. Backed by the USSSA, NSA, ISF, ISA and ASA Championship Play, no one will dispute that the Flame is high quality.
Although it takes some time getting used to, the bat does have a couple of negatives. First of all, it vibrates a lot which can be very uncomfortable for some players. Secondly, it doesn’t whip smoothly which can cause unnecessary pain for the long ball hitter.
The positives definitely outweigh the negatives as I have quickly learned. The Rotation Index is a great feature and should be included on every bat, not just the ones made by DeMarini. With record speed, I have broken my bat in just the way that I like it and it didn’t take me near as long as it has in the past. I also like the Flame’s overall design. It is very attractive to look at and was one of the first bats I was drawn to in the store.

I have read a lot of reviews on the Flame that were not so nice. I am not sure what people were expecting. This is a stiff bat it was designed that way. There is a bit more vibration than with other bats. And it definitely takes a lot more to break this bat in.
I think this bat is a lot stiffer due to the new ASA testing guidelines. A lot of the 2010 slow pitch bats are a lot stiffer than years before. All the manufacturers are trying to beat the 1000 hit requirement for break in for composite bats. Mainly this is due to composite bats getting better over time. The ASA certification guidelines are pretty strict. And a lot of manufacturers are trying to figure out how to fall in line with the testing guidelines. I think the flame is great for what it is.
super stiff bat. major vibration sending pains all throughout my arms. broke first practice i used it., not very impressed with this bat!
